What’s New about the ‘New Ressourcement’?: The Changed Circumstances of a Perennial Project of Retrieval

Abstract

Bishop Robert Barron proposes a "New Ressourcement" to revitalize Catholic theology by reintegrating the Church’s intellectual and spiritual traditions. Moving beyond the limitations of theological liberalism and neo-scholasticism, he advocates for a rich retrieval of scriptural, patristic, and Thomistic sources. This movement addresses contemporary crises like disaffiliation, secularism, and moral subjectivism. Ultimately, the project seeks a Christocentric synthesis of rigorous scholarship and pastoral mission to serve the modern Church.
