Abstract

Peter Casarella examines Romano Guardini’s philosophical critique of technology, contrasting it with Martin Heidegger’s concept of das Gestell and postmodern analyses by Foucault and Agamben. Guardini interprets technology as a challenge to human freedom and vision, requiring a new "intensive thinking" rooted in personalism. By advocating for "incomplete thought" and a Christocentric humanism, Guardini offers a path to navigate technocratic paradigms through contemplative encounter and liturgical askesis.
