Abstract

Anthony J. Scordino explores Joseph Ratzinger’s (Pope Benedict XVI) Christological synthesis, focusing on the interplay between his well-known eschatology and less-familiar protology. Scordino argues that Ratzinger presents Christ as the "Eschatological Adam"—the Logos of creation and the Telos of history—to resolve the modern crisis between metaphysics and salvation history. Ultimately, this synthesis provides a coherent reason for Christian hope by centering history and the cosmos in the Eucharistic heart of the Church.
